The Vrkshasana or Tree Pose is the classic standing pose of balance. groundedness and poise. This beautiful YogaGeek design presents both the origin and goal of this asana: to "become" the tree, with our torso as the trunk, the roots extending out from our foot's firm stance, and our raised arms as the branches and leaves. The design evokes the felt embodiment of the pose while it reminds us to stand tall, remain deeply connected to the earth while reaching out to the sky of possibility.

ABOUT VRKSHASANA OR TREE POSE
Vrkshasana - Tree Pose
Vrkshasana or Tree Pose

The Sanskrit name of the vrishasana (वृक्षासन) consists of two words vṛkṣa (or vriksha) meaning "tree" and asana (आसन) meaning pose or posture. This posture is a standing and balance pose. Practitioners begin by standing in tadasana or mountain pose with both feet on the ground, and then shifting their weight to either leg, bending the opposite leg and placing the sole of the foot place on the inner thigh of the straight leg. One variation has the foot of the bent leg over the opposing thigh in a half lotus pose.

Hands are held either in the anjali mudra (palms touch at the heart) or raised over head either in anjali mudra or set apart facing each other.

The emphasis of this posture is the alignment of the head, spine and hips. Although the eyes can be closed in this posture they are often left open.
