The ecstatic joy of meditation embodied in two flowing brush strokes! This design, inspired by Japanese calligraphy and ink wash brush painting, captures the joyful, uplifting motion of the heart breaking free of its unnecessary burdens. The decorative design element to the right of the meditator communicates that freedom while indicating the singular beauty of the untethered heart.

ON MEDITATION AND YOGA
MEDITATION

The commonest form of Yoga practice today is sometimes refered to as Modern Postural Yoga. This is to distinguish it from ancient, classical and pre-modern forms of Yoga that considered meditation, or dhyāna (ध्यान), to be the most important form of practice. Meditation is mentioned throughout one of the most well-know ancient texts on Yoga philsophy and practice, Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, and is presented as one of eight parts or "limbs" of Yoga (ashtanga-yoga). The third limb, asana refered to various seated poses used in meditation and not, as is commonly believed, the postures we practice today which are mostly of modern origin.
